One of only two independents, and the only one to respond thus far, meet Louis Bird, running for OGC and NUS delegate;

What do you stand for?
I stand for real action on campus. I have been involved on campus, in clubs and as part of the Guild for multiple years and I know what works. I stand for effective and achievable change on campus to ensure that everyone can achieve their potential. I will focus on making university life as easy as possible.  I am keen to make change in the education space as well as improving student welfare.
As an independent I will endeavour to make sure your voices are heard and consider the impact for all students on each decision. I think that the Guild’s work should be closely focused on students and campus life.  I am simply keen to ensure that everyone has a positive experience on campus, making sure that campus life has something for everyone and all feel supported in their journey through uni!

What can people expect from you if they vote for you?
People can expect honesty and genuine action. My policies are all achievable and realistic, my aim was not to over promise, but hopefully to over-deliver! I will pursue those crucial changes which make a real difference students. This is why I am really keen to see extended hours for critical student services. This policy will have a resounding positive impact and ensure that those who need extra support can get it regardless of their schedule.

I also have been on Guild in various positions for the last two years, this experience means that I have the knowledge and the ability to achieve outcomes. I have seen how the Guild works, and I am keen to bring an effective and collaborative attitude to my work to make sure I can make a difference. Anyone who votes for me will get a committed, organised and experienced councillor who will not shy away from challenges. I will be a councillor who goes out and gets things done!

Why should people get out and vote for you?
Guild elections are the time when your vote is the most powerful, you will be part of a small group of people voting and will see actual progress before this time next year! Guild elections is one of the few times it is genuinely worthwhile voting.  As someone who enjoys the act of voting and is a politics nerd I always get out and vote. For everyone else this is an opportunity to change the direction of the Guild and get the action you want. Vote for someone who resonates with you.

People should vote for me if they want to see well considered changes to the Guild as well as someone who will stand up for students. I believe that the Guild should strongly advocate for students to the university. I will be a Guild Councillor who is not afraid to bring student voices to the university and will always back the interests of students. I will not be part of a Guild which simply accepts university policy changes, but one which looks to strongly represent the interests of students and ensure all changes are acceptable.  If you want your voice to be heard, you should turn up next week and vote for the Bird!
