After a week of listening to Guild hacks, it is our turn to speak. Figuratively, at the ballot box.
First of all, it is important to remember that voting is not compulsory. If you do not wish to vote, you are very welcome to tell campaigners you aren’t interested, and go about your day as normal.
If you do choose to vote, you need only present yourself at a polling station where the WA Electoral Commission staff will assist you through the process.
Voting is completed using an optional preferential system. To vote for your favourite candidate, you place a [1] next to their name. Your vote is now valid. However, if you want to express further preferences (in case your favourite candidate is eliminated), you can place a [2] next to your second-favourite, a [3] next to your third-favourite, and so on – but you can stop at any time, with no need to fill every box.
Voting runs from Monday to Thursday this week. Polling stations will be open on Oak Lawn and near Reid Library every day from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Polling at the Nedlands campus will be conducted from 11 AM to 3 PM on Monday.
A station will open at the Business School on Tuesday from 11 AM to 3 PM.
Students studying at the QEII complex can vote in the FJ Clarke Lecture Theatre on Wednesday from 11 AM to 3 PM.
Finally, dentistry students can vote at the OHCWA Medical-Dental Library from 11 AM to 3 PM on Thursday.
