Two separate protests against rescinding three UWA Arts majors took place today on campus.
The first, endorsed by the UWA Student Guild and their ‘UWA has Major Issues’ campaign, was a ‘read-in’, outside Dean of Arts Prof. Krishna Sen’s office. Students sat outside Professor Krishna’s office for about an hour.
The second, organised by Socialist Alternative, was a demonstration outside Winthrop Hall, the location of today’s Academic Council meeting where the decision to rescind the Medieval and Early Modern Studies (MEMS), Gender Studies, and European Studies will be made.
The Council meeting is currently in session, and Pelican can confirm that the proposed major cuts are being discussed now – check @PelicanMagazine for updates from our source.
