The  2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities results landed this morning, and the news isn’t great for UWA. After a run of scoring in the high eighties, we now place at 96 (back where we were in 2012) – dropping nine from last year. Still in the top 100 then – but only by a scrape.

Not so much a day of shuffling about in glum despair as for the University of Wollongong though, which has stumbled down a very steep 69-step staircase to lie bruised at level 332. No doubt thinking about where it all went wrong.

On the international scene, to nobody’s surprise, Harvard again takes home academic gold – maintaining a winning streak unbroken since the league table began in 2003.
